Rat Race

The Rat's Tale

It was a dark and gloomy night (well, it was!) and the Rats came out to play (literally!). Everyone had the "gnawing" sensation that the rain would dampen play, but all for naught in the end. The Gagetown River Rats, though earlier expressing some fear of being "drenched", became relaxed and poised for strategic action as they scurried out. Some Rats, however, did "get their feet wet", being new to the territory.

The excited packs started off in a flurry and balls were flying everywhere at the first destination. On they went for the mental challenge, where they had to think things through. Many continued to "step on it" and were successful blowing this one away with relative ease - yes, that's where the bonus cheese would've come in handy! But alas, hindsight is 20/20.

Second guessing (and second sniffing) doesn't work when you're working with scents, as some Rats quickly realized, and cost them dearly. And in the "rush", where "size" and "weight" mattered more than speed, there were some slip ups and scoldings, as points fell to the ground.

"Oh, soooo close", but no cigar, as Rat packs worked together to get the right words in. Nonetheless, most received points even if fewer words were spoken. As the end got closer, Rats were faced with a "puzzling" situation. Timeliness was key to putting the plan together. Ah, success, though the countdown was tight.

Rats got their backs up with the last obstacle, bending over backwards to achieve their goal, in spite of jeers and obvious ratty conduct from others.

Throughout the pursuit, Ralphie Rat scoped out the scene warm and cosy, and high and dry. With the game so intense, some, not all, found him, and the fortunate ones added to their pot.

At last, they all found their way to the cheese and all in good stead - no damages or injuries, except maybe to pride. Last pack to cross the Finish was the Royal Rats (though others had their eye on the prize), earning a place on the Tail End trophy, while the FCC Construction Rats built a strong pack and came out with a concrete finish to win the game, and the coveted Pied Piper trophy for a year.

Many left with some stash, all left with memories.

The End.
